My Story

About Brianna

Brianna is a Grand Prix dressage trainer with extensive experience developing horses across a wide range of breeds, including PREs, Warmbloods, Friesians, Ponies, Thoroughbreds, and Quarter Horses. She has also trained and coached competitive jumpers, hunters, and eventers, giving her a comprehensive understanding of performance demands across disciplines.

Riding, competing, and coaching daily allows Brianna to approach training from a complete perspective — understanding not only technique and biomechanics, but also the practical realities of the show ring.

Philosophy: Listening Through the Contact

Brianna views the bridle as a communication tool, not a means of control. Horses continually provide feedback through the contact; learning to interpret that feedback is essential to ethical, effective training. Her goal is to help riders refine their feel so they can recognize subtle signs of discomfort or resistance early, address the root cause, and create long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes. Horses are our greatest teachers. When we understand what they are telling us, we become better partners, competitors, and caretakers.

Specialization: Bit & Bridle Fitting for Performance

Brianna specializes in bit and bridle fitting as a foundational component of correct training. She believes many training challenges — including tension, resistance, inconsistent contact, head tossing, behind-the-vertical posture, and asymmetry — often originate from discomfort in the horse’s mouth or poll.

Her approach begins with evaluating:

· Oral anatomy (palate height, tongue size, bar sensitivity)

· Jaw alignment and symmetry

· Poll and TMJ comfort

· Conformation and neck set

· Way of going and rider influence

By selecting and adjusting equipment that supports the horse’s individual anatomy, she helps create a stable, comfortable connection. When the bit and bridle fit correctly, the horse can:

· Seek the contact willingly

· Lift through the topline

· Move more freely through the back

· Develop true throughness and self-carriage

Correct equipment does not replace training — it enhances it. Comfort allows clarity, and clarity builds trust.

Brianna has trained with highly experienced and knowledgeable professionals throughout her career and proudly exclusively represents Artemis Bridles and Fager Bits, aligning her program with anatomically designed equipment that prioritizes comfort, function, and performance.

What to Expect During a Bit & Bridle Fitting

A successful bit and bridle fitting begins with understanding the whole picture — both horse and rider.

1. Initial Consultation

We begin with an in-depth conversation about you and your horse. This establishes a clear baseline of your current program and identifies specific behaviors, challenges, or feelings you would like to improve.

We discuss:

· Current level of training

· Discipline and performance goals

· Natural tendencies in how your horse uses their body

· Contact preferences and sensitivities

· Any resistance, tension, or asymmetry you are experiencing

This step ensures the fitting is tailored to your individual partnership — not just your equipment.

---

2. Evaluation of Current Tack

Your existing bridle and bit are carefully assessed for:

· Overall fit and balance

· Pressure distribution

· Symmetry

· Signs of restriction or discomfort

During this stage, you’ll also receive education on what can be improved and why. Understanding how tack influences biomechanics is a key part of the process.

---

3. Custom Bridle Fitting

A bridle is then fitted piece by piece to accommodate your horse’s unique size and shape combination. Attention is given to:

· Poll relief

· Browband length

· Noseband positioning and stability

· Cheekpiece balance

· Overall anatomical alignment

Each adjustment is made with the goal of improving comfort, stability, and freedom of movement.

---

4. Bit Selection & Testing

Based on the information gathered, an appropriate bit is selected to trial. The rider then rides in the bit to evaluate:

· Acceptance of contact

· Stability in the connection

· Relaxation through the topline

· Straightness and symmetry

· Responsiveness to subtle aids

Additional bits may be tried, as each option provides valuable feedback. The horse’s response guides the process — helping determine which design best supports clear, consistent communication.

---

5. Final Selection & Ordering

Once both horse and rider feel confident and comfortable, the final selections are made.

· The bridle is custom ordered to your horse’s specifications.

· The bit is ordered directly from the manufacturer.

The end goal is a thoughtfully fitted system that enhances comfort, promotes correct biomechanics, and strengthens the connection between horse and rider.
